Environmental and Sustainability Governance
Driving the Energy Transition with Responsible Innovation
We believe that materials for the clean energy transition should themselves be produced as sustainably as possible. Our approach integrates environmental responsibility, social value creation, and strong governance from the ground up.
Environmental Stewardship
Reducing the environmental impact
Lava Blue’s modified hydrochloric acid process is inherently designed for lower environmental impact compared to conventional HPA production routes.
Key environmental advantages include:
Circular and waste-to-value feedstocks
Our technology can utilise low-grade kaolin, mine waste, fly ash, industrial waste, gibbsite, or scrap aluminium – turning potential waste streams into high-value inputs and reducing reliance on virgin mining.
Resource efficiency and closed-loop chemistry
The majority of the hydrochloric acid (HCl) used in the process is captured and recycled, approaching a closed-loop system.
Lower embodied energy and emissions
By using waste or low-grade feedstocks instead of energy-intensive refined aluminium, our process significantly reduces the total embodied energy and associated greenhouse gas emissions of the final HPA product.
