LAVA BLUE HIGH PURITY ALUMINA FROM KAOLIN

 

Lava Blue is developing a range of high purity materials for use in the manufacture of advanced batteries and other energy technology. 

 

Twenty first century energy systems need a wide variety of critical minerals, all of which Australia can supply, but few that we currently value-add.

 

Lava Blue is doing that – value adding Australian energy minerals to satisfy the demands of the global shift to clean energy.

 

The first product we are bringing to market is High Purity Alumina.

WHAT IS HPA USED FOR

HPA is the basis for all LED lighting systems. It was demand for LEDs in the early 2000s that drove its increased availability which has resulted in the material being adopted for a range of applications including:

1. Rechargeable Batteries

 

Ceramic coated separators in batteries that improve performance and safety of batteries.

2.  Tough Glass

 

Sapphire glass or ‘ceramic glass’ on watch faces and smart phones.

3. Future Technology

 

Substrates for high performance computer chips.

4. Medical

 

Inert coatings on medical implants.

MARKET CONDITIONS FOR HPA ARE IMPROVING STRONGLY.

 

All of the conditions that produce the forecast demand growth out to 2024 will still be in place and likely be resulting in even faster demand growth after 2024.

LAVA BLUE HIGH PURITY QUARTZ

 

High purity quartz (HPQ) is an essential feedstock in high technology sectors that are continually expanding such as photovoltaic solar cells and silicon metal-oxide wafers in the semiconductor industry.

 

One path to these electronics grade metals is to first produce a purer form of metallurgical silicon in an electric arc furnace before further refining to crystalline silicon. Crystalline silicon remains the principal material for photovoltaic technology.

 

Lava Blue’s HPQ will be produced from our resource of high purity crystalline quartz on the doorstep of Cloncurry in north-west Queensland. This significant outcropping deposit of more than 6 million tonnes of HPQ, that is naturally greater than 99.5% pure silica, presents a unique opportunity for advanced mineral processing for a range of silicon products.
